This website demonstrates my growth as a reader and writer because, when put in the right order, you can read my essays and analyses of books from the beginning of the year to the end of the year, and see how much I’ve improved. You can also see how I’ve improved with my timed writes. I think some disadvantages to the website were uploading everything to the website, because sometimes it is easier to just turn in paper copies of assignments. For example, cornell notes, for me atleast, are easier to handwrite than to type. I ended up having to take pictures of my cornell notes, and email them to myself to upload as images on my website. Although I got the hang of it as the year went on, the website was difficult to use if you had never used it before.
Also, while some of the assignments required on the website were helpful, some of them were busy work and could be done without next year. I think the major works data sheets were helpful, but only parts of them. The plot summary, character list, symbols, themes, and significance of opening and closing scenes were the parts that helped me further understand the book, while I didn’t feel like the other parts helped.
Some advantages to the website were that we didn’t have the risk of losing our papers all year, since they were loaded onto our websites and all in the same place. The website helped me to stay and feel organized, and was a good way to overall show all of the books we have worked with over the course of the year. The work on my website will help me as I continue in my scholarly journey because I can look back on it to help me and to see how far I’ve come in the future. The website was a new, interesting way to express ourselves, since we had lots of freedom with how we wanted to build it. All in all, I enjoyed working with the website portfolio and think that it was truly helpful.
